While it was speculated that the Bombers may move on from Bighill, on January 24th Bighill confirmed on his Facebook page that was indeed what happened.
It’s unfortunate I won’t be coming back to the Blue and Gold this coming season. I’m not mad, I understand the way the business goes. Sure it’s disappointing when things don’t work out the way you want them to, but I knew this was a possibility and by no means was caught off guard.
First off, thank you to all of the fans who have been nothing short of AMAZING. From the day I arrived here, there was nothing but love, and it’s a major reason why we live full time here in Winnipeg today, as well as run a business here.
Secondly, thanks for the Bombers organization bringing me in, the football experience is top notch. I’ve been around for awhile and sometimes players don’t know how good they have it. Winnipeg takes care of their players and I’m very thankful to have been part of helping this organization bring back the grey cup to the Province of Manitoba.
Lastly, I’ll miss sharing the field with my guys! We have built an unbreakable bond, which is one of the things I cherish most about this game. I only hope that all of them know that everything I did was for them, and to help them be the best they could be. I realized mid way through my career that you should judge a player by how much he elevates the players around him, as opposed to just how well he personally plays.
My intentions are to keep playing. Rehab is going great and it’s all training in the gym/running/plyos. We will see what the next chapter holds, but I know this, you can’t keep a savage down. Thank you @wpgbluebomberscfl and thanks Big Blue!!
#4TheW for the last time
On September 19, 2024 Bighill revealed that his season was over due to a an injury requiring surgery and significant rehab.
Before we go forward, we need to thank Bighill for who he is as a person and what he has done for the Bombers.
I remember Bighill playing for BC when Winnipeg faced them in the Grey Cup, and Bighill stopped a run to the outside near the goal line stopping the Bombers to score. However, we would be with the Bombers when they finally broke their Grey Cup drought.
Bighill’s played six seasons in Winnipeg, following six with the B.C. Lions. He is a three-time winner of the CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award (2105, 2018 and 2021). However, father time catches up with everyone. While the Bombers wan to keep some continuity, they also need to look towards the future – which means getting younger.
While I do not mind the Bombers releasing Bighill, if what he says is accurate, the process could have been handled better by Kyle Walters.
I will certainly miss watching Bighill come over the top trying to stuff short yardage plays. What’s next for Adam? I can tell you that over the last number of years he has been working as an investment consultant for Wellington- Altus Private Wealth. I actually have talked with him years ago about our investments and the potential of him working with our investments. So he has been building towards his post-CFL career for a while.Do you think the Bombers should have moved on from Bighill; why or why not?
