Bombers’ Quarterback Woes Grow As Streveler Is Taking 1st Team Reps Even After His Last Game

Sorry, not sorry, there was nothing good about Streveler’s outing against Hamilton last week…it was not even mid. Yet, with Collaros mostly watching the practice on Monday, Streveler taking first team reps, and Wilson doing 2nd team duties, the Bombers seem to be in a world of trouble!

Do not let the stats fool you…it was a brutal outing for Streveler! It should be evident to the Bombers after their last game that Streveler just cannot get it done. It is either not evident, or Wilson is just so bad that somehow the Bombers believe Streveler is a better option. Neither situation is a good spot to be in.

What does this say about how bad the Bombers think Wilson is? Streveler plays the game against Hamilton with an embarrassing performance and he is getting first team reps again?! I cannot question Streveler’s effort, but in professional sports, and in the CFL in a year that you are hosting the Grey Cup…results matter!

We should be very honest here, there are no teams in the CFL that are going to trade the Bombers a quarterback. Winnipeg has been to the last 5 Grey Cups, nobody feels sorry for them. Yet, even outside of that, Winnipeg has nothing to trade for a quarterback! If any other team releases a quarterback do not be surprised to see Winnipeg jump all over that and sign them. That does not mean that Winnipeg would keep that quarterback. The Bombers just need to get more quarterbacks in the building to find a real number 2 quarterback – because obviously, that player is not currently on this team.

While we can only speculate right now, as that is all Mike O’Shea has given us to do, it sure looks like Collaros is going to be out for a while.

That should come as no surprise. What does come as a surprise is that some of the CFL writers are actually picking the Bombers to win!

Thank you, Pat Steinberg and Vicki Hall, but what are you thinking? It is possible that Dru Brown makes an appearance this week, as he was at day 1 of practice. And a bit more on Brown. I do not know how many times this year, with our current quarterback fiasco, I have heard people say, “We should have kept Brown.” Look, it is not like he has been an ironman tis year. Ottawa currently has a worse record than Winnipeg. Do you think our record would be better this year with Brown and the amount of time he has missed? I am not convinced.

What I an convinced of is that the Bombers better be turning over ever rock and looking in every place to find a legitimate number two quarterback. Because, I am also convinced that they understand they do not currently have a legitimate number two quarterback. Which begs the question, what was the general manager doing in the off-season?

While Walters has currently been shielded from much criticism, should the Bombers miss the playoffs Bombers’ GM, Kyle Walters will have to answer some serious questions. Even if the Bombers make the playoffs, Walters need to answer some very pointed questions as it appears a forgone conclusion that the Bombers will not be hosting a playoff game. He may in fact find himself with his walking papers.

You need to have a complete organization to win a Grey Cup, it doesn’t boil down to one person. It’s up to management to have all the pieces in place. In 2007, the Bombers said they lost a sure thing Grey Cup because Kevin Glenn was injured. But they only had a RAW ROOKIE in Ryan Dinwiddie playing his 1st CFL Game to go to. Bombers didn’t lose because they didn’t have Glenn, they lost because the ORGANIZATION had FAILED to have a competent #2 QB available.
Deja Vu all over again. NO GREY CUP FOR YOU! COME BACK, ONE YEAR!!
