Reflections – If The Bombers Were Not Sure They Should Be Now That Streveler Will Not Get The Job Done

Bombers’ Head Coach, Mike O’Shea is wrong! It is not too easy to finger point at one thing…that is the one thing that lost the Bombers the game.

O’Shea either does not know that, or is being typical ‘Mike O’Shea’ without criticizing his players publically. If it is the latter, I have no issue with that. But fans are starting to wonder if O’Shea values relationships over results. And based on what other Bomber players are saying, it sounds like they are either following suit, or the team is really unaware of their issues.

“I don’t know what to tell you. I’m going to give you the same speech I always give after a loss: we’ve just got to play tougher, be better. It’s the same s–t,” said dime back Redha Kramdi inside a morose Blue Bombers locker room late Friday night. “We’ve just got to be better. It’s small stuff. It’s a couple missed tackles on defence. And if we hold them to threes instead of touchdowns (after first half turnovers) maybe we have a chance at the end.” – source

To value relationships as a manager is very important, but not at the expense of results. However, when you look at the roster you do have to question if the Bombers’ management and coaching staff have lost their way. If they really believe that Streveler gives them the best chance to win without Collaros – which they must, at least before Friday’s game – then you really have to question that.

Based on the game plan it was obvious that the Bombers do not have faith in Streveler throwing the ball, and Streveler proved them right. Yet, if that is the case, as it appears to be, why did the Bombers not go out and get a different quarterback before the season? In fact, the Bombers did have other quarterbacks in training camp…both of whom they released. So you are telling me that in training camp Streveler beat out Jake Dolegala and Shea Patterson? Apparently.

Also problematic, is that the Bombers got away from the run game in the second half. Sure, conventional wisdom says that the Bombers are going to need to take some shots down the field when you trail and the game clock is ticking on. However, when the Bombers were close in the game was when they were running the ball.

Earlier I asked if the Bombers were in trouble, and the jury was still out at that time. But the jury has now returned a unanimous verdict, guilty as charged! And the issues continue. There must be a reason that the Bombers have not started Wilson…they must really not believe that he can get the job done. However, their hand may be forced as I do not see any way that the Bombers start Streveler again this week. Here is the thing about Streveler, he is like a girlfriend that is no good for you, and you know you need to walk away from…but does enough things to keep it interesting and you hanging around.

If the Bombers do start Streveler again next week, then we know that they problems run deep and are multifaceted. First, we will know for sure that the Bombers value relationships over results, to not even give Wilson a shot. Second, we will know that the Bombers are completely doomed at quarterback without Collaros.

Before the season started, Bombers’ General Manager Kyle Walters seemed a little unsure about his roster…and now we know that was completely justified. But the question that must be asked is, if Walters was unsure about their roster at that point why did they not do something about it so that he was more sure?

Does this feel like 2019, anyone? The Bombers are still in it with Calgary and Saskatchewan ahead of them, but they are currently lacking a quarterback. Even if Collaros comes back, which we do not know right now if he will…what if he gets injured in the playoffs? Do you like the Bombers chances then? I do not! The reality is that the Bombers staff need to be looking under every rock to find another quarterback if they have any chance of getting to the playoffs and winning in the playoffs. It is glaringly obvious that they do not have the quarterbacks currently on the roster that can get the job done if Collaros is out.

Speaking about Collaros, it is not like he has had great post-season play. I have said it many times, the Bombers are going to find themselves in the same spot Montreal did after Calvillo retired if they do not have a succession plan. If the Bombers did have a succession plan, I hope they are seriously reconsidering it.

We should find out more this week as the Bombers take the field in practice. But either way, whether Collaros is going to be healthy for a playoff run, or not, if I am the Bombers I am looking for another quarterback to add to the roster.

My friend and I will be canceling our next season tickets We feel the Bombers organization are letting their fans down. They will see many fans drop their tickets next year. Get rid of Jason Hogan and Streveler. Streveler is a goon and can’t handle pressure. He is a I player not a team player. We should give Terry Wilson a chance and be in the next game. Collaros is damaged goods. He gets injured too often. Tell the Bombers to open their eyes and listen to the fans. We want a strong and reliable team. We need changes now.

Of course wpg is in trouble ,trying to squeeze every ounce of juice from the 3 straight losing gc rosters has failed miserably ,that imcludes not getting a replacement for the fragile old collaros
who even if they put him out there is only a hit away from forced retirement .He should probably quit on his own, but some of these guys never know when to quit ,wpg will be open to litigation after he’s done if he has cognitive issues for playing him when they knew his history .
