Four Positions Hamilton Must Address in the 2026 CFL Draft

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have had a successful off-season heading into the 2026 season, adding high-quality offensive linemen and defensive linemen, and adding solid depth at wide receiver and defensive back. However, the trend of this off-season has focused on adding quality American talent to boost their position groups, but there are still needs that must be met to allow the Tiger-Cats to maintain flexibility with the ratio during the season. At the end of April, the Tiger-Cats have their best opportunity to address their depth needs and add critical National players during the 2026 CFL draft.

The positions that need to be stocked with National talent include many of the position groups that tend to get hit hard by attrition throughout the CFL season. That means on the offensive side of the ball, Hamilton needs to add more offensive linemen and increase their National depth at wide receiver. Defensively, the Tiger-Cats need to add more National rotational players to their defensive line and defensive backfield.

Offensive Line

During the off-season, the Tiger-Cats made a landmark move by extending the contract of offensive lineman Brandon Revenberg to hold the fort for the Hamilton offensive line. But the Tiger-Cats did take a hit by losing Coulter Woodmansey and Brendan Bordner to the Edmonton Elks. That means the Tiger-Cats need to add at least one high-quality National offensive lineman, and all signs indicate that Niklas Henning will be the player that Hamilton targets in the 1st round of the draft.

Defensive Line

During the 2025 season, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats‘ performance on the defensive line took a big step forward, helping them reach the Eastern Division Finals. Defensive end Julian Howsare had a standout season with 13 quarterback sacks, and he established himself as a force on the edge of the Tiger-Cats defensive front. While the Tiger-Cats hope to build on that success, it will be important for Hamilton to use their CFL draft to bolster their defensive line with National talent, and those players will also be needed to support the Tiger-Cats’ special teams’ units.

Defensive Secondary

One of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ strongest position groups has been their defensive secondary. By re-signing cornerback Jamal Peters and safety Stavros Katsantonis, the foundation of the Tiger-Cats’ defensive secondary is still intact. However, the Tiger-Cats did lose DaShaun Amos to the Toronto Argonauts. Therefore, the Tiger-Cats need to stock up on National defensive backs like Ethan Stuart. In addition, those National defensive backs tend to be regular contributors to the Tiger-Cats special teams units throughout the season.

Wide Receiver

Similar to the Tiger-Cats defensive backfield, the Tiger-Cats wide receiver units have the top-end talent, but Hamilton is still in need of more National depth at wide receiver. During free agency, the Tiger-Cats did add Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and Jaelen Gill, but they also agreed to part ways with Tim White. Primarily, Hamilton needs to target at least one National slot receiver that can be a dependable possession target for quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell. If Hamilton can select wide receiver Matt Sibley or Barron Miles Jr., the Tiger-Cats will get the dependable target they need, as well as a player with a high football IQ who can contribute on special teams.
