Calgary Stampeders Sign Former NFL & XFL QB P.J. Walker For 2025 CFL Season

The Calgary Stampeders signed quarterback P.J. Walker following his stint on their practice roster at the end of the 2024 season. Calgary acquired Walker’s rights from the Toronto Argonauts in a September 26 trade.

“We made the trade for P.J. for a reason,” said Stampeders head coach and general manager Dave Dickenson. “We’re doing everything we can to make our team better and that includes having a strong quarterback room.”

Walker (5’11”, 215 lbs) brings NFL experience to Calgary, having played 21 games from 2020-2023. He completed 185 of 339 passes for 2,135 yards and 6 touchdowns with the Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns, posting a 5-3 record as starter.

The Elizabeth, New Jersey native led the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks to a 5-0 record in 2020, throwing for 1,338 yards and 15 touchdowns before the season ended due to the pandemic.

At Temple University, Walker set program records with 830 completions, 10,668 passing yards, and 74 touchdowns. He earned Most Outstanding Player honors in Temple’s 34-10 win over Navy in the 2016 American Athletic Conference championship.

Walker spent three seasons on the Indianapolis Colts practice roster after going undrafted in 2017. He most recently attended Seattle Seahawks training camp in 2024 before being released during final cuts.

“The opportunity to continue to grow as a player and compete helped me make my decision to sign with the Stampeders,” said Walker.

It looks like Walker will give it a go in the CFL rather than trying his hands at the UFL in the States.
