In Week 10 the Tiger-Cats will face the Toronto Argonauts at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton. But while preparing to avenge their 14-point loss to the Argonauts in Week 9, the Tiger-Cats are having to deal with significant injury situations. The battle of attrition is an element that every CFL team must face sometime during the 21-week CFL regular season. Up to this point, the Tiger-Cats have been able to manage the injury situations that they have faced and continue to be competitive on a week-to-week basis.
To have an opportunity to get a key East division win this week the Tiger-Cats may have to do so with backup quarterback Matt Shiltz getting his first start of the 2022 season. Dane Evans is listed as doubtful with an injury to his right shoulder, and a decision on his status may be made just before the game on Friday. On the positive side, the offensive line is expected to have the same lineup that they had in the first game at Toronto after a successful game in Week 9.
Despite this injury and others to their receiving and linebacking unit, the Tiger-Cats are in great need of a win this week against the Argonauts. To accomplish that goal the Tiger-Cats will have to perform better in the red zone and score touchdowns, win the turnover battle, and correct issues on special teams that led to their loss in Week 9.
Mid-Week Injury Report
The Tiger-Cats are facing a large number of injury situations this week. The following players have been ruled out for this week’s game, DL Anthony Federico (hand), LB Curtis Newton (knee), OL Kyle Saxelid (ankle), WR Papi White (back/knee), WR Anthony Johnson (hand), LB Nic Cross (knee), WR Tyler Ternowski (shoulder), WR Bralon Addison (Achilles) WR Tre’ Crawford (hamstring/illness), OL Chris Van Zeyl (hip), LB Bailey Feltmate (quad), LB Kyle Wilson (ankle), and DE Mason Bennett (knee). A few Tiger-Cats are listed as questionable, WR Mike Jones (ribcage) and DL Mo Diallo (illness). And starting quarterback Dane Evans (right shoulder) is listed as doubtful.
Personnel Acquisitions in Week 10
The Tiger-Cats are facing critical personnel issues at wide receiver and linebacker. To rebuild their roster depth at those positions the Tiger-Cats have signed three players, Canadian linebacker Myles Manalo, Canadian receiver Tyler Turner, and American receiver Tony Brown. Manalo and Turner have prior experience with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Turner spent the pre-season of 2022 with the Tiger-Cats, and Manalo was drafted by the Tiger-Cats in 2021 and played in 3 games with Hamilton in 2021. Receiver Tony Brown has spent time in the NFL with Washington and Cleveland. The Tiger-Cats are working to re-build their roster at these positions in response to a large number of injuries. It will be important for these new Tiger-Cats to integrate into the offence and defence and make a positive impact as Hamilton prepares to face Toronto at home on Friday night.
