When the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-3) and the Saskatchewan Roughriders (7-1) meet during Week 11, there is a distinct possibility that this game could be a preview of this year's Grey Cup championship game. The Tiger-Cats enter this matchup with the Roughriders after a 6-1 record over the last seven weeks, including a 41-38 overtime loss to the BC Lions last week, which broke the Tiger-Cats' six-game win streak. Saskatchewan has started 2025 with a 7-1 record, which has allowed the Roughriders to place themselves at the top of the West Division.
During Week 2 of the 2025 season, the Tiger-Cats and Roughriders met in Hamilton, and in that tightly contested game, Saskatchewan earned a hard-fought 28-23 victory. In addition to facing each other, both the Tiger-Cats and Roughriders are also competing against their bad habits from the past several seasons. Since 2021, the Tiger-Cats have earned a reputation for starting each season poorly, only to make a late push for the playoffs in the second half. However, this year they have been very successful in the first half of the season. In contrast, Saskatchewan recently started the season very well, but in the second half of the season, they have crashed back to pack.
The Tiger-Cats and Roughriders have a chance to continue to claim the top spot in their division, and the other team will hear the footsteps of division rivals.
Relative to the CFL Week 11 Injury Report, Hamilton and the Roughriders come into this game on opposite sides of the spectrum. The Roughriders are exceptionally healthy with only wide receiver Mario Alford and defensive lineman Mike Rose missing practice this week. However, Hamilton has several injuries, including to running backs Johnny Augustine and Ante Milanovic-Litre, and defensive backs Stavros Katsantonis and Jamal Peters.

Key to Victory #1: Tiger-Cats Must Produce Explosive Plays
The secret to Hamilton's turnaround after starting the 2025 season 0-2 is the Tiger-Cats' ability to produce explosive plays on the offensive side of the Ball. When you combine the impressive performances that Bo Levi Mitchell has produced this season with the elite playmaking abilities of wide receivers Kenny Lawler, Kiondre Smith, and Tim White, it creates a difficult situation for opposing defensive units. When all three receivers are involved in the game plan, the Tiger-Cats are virtually unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball. It is essential to continue spreading the ball to all available offensive playmakers, making it difficult for Hamilton opponents to find solutions to stopping the Tiger-Cats' offensive production.
Key to Victory #2: Stop the Roughriders Run Game
The biggest challenge for Hamilton in this matchup with the Roughriders will be to stop Saskatchewan's strong running game. So far this season, the Roughriders have an outstanding offensive line, and when you combine that line with running back A.J. Ouellette, stopping the Saskatchewan run game is a huge task. That task is doubly difficult for the Tiger-Cats because, while the Hamilton defensive front seven is better than it was in 2024, it is still the biggest weak point of Hamilton's defensive unit. If Hamilton cannot stop Ouellette, then they will feel the pain of a thousand cuts.
Key to Victory #3: Establish the Tiger-Cats Run Game
If someone claimed that the Hamilton Tiger-Cats' run game is ineffective, it would be hard to produce evidence to refute those claims. On the other hand, Hamilton has found success in the run game this season at times despite several injuries to the Tiger-Cats running backs. Regardless of the outcome of each individual run play, Hamilton needs to continue to find ways to make defensive units respect the threat of their run game. This week, Hamilton will have to keep the threat of the run game alive against a Roughriders defensive front seven that is currently the best in the CFL this season.
Key to Victory #4: Protect QB Bo Levi Mitchell
The Saskatchewan Roughriders' defensive line is second in the CFL when it comes to sacking opposing quarterbacks. After eight games, Saskatchewan has sacked opposing quarterbacks 22 times. The best way to limit Hamilton's impressive passing attack is to keep Tiger-Cats quarterback Mitchell running for his life. Hamilton's offensive line has only allowed nine sacks this season, which is a big part of the Tiger-Cats' offensive success. If Hamilton intends to stay at the top of the East division, it must continue to be successful in protecting Mitchell.
Key to Victory #5: Force the Roughriders to Turn the Ball Over
The most effective equalizer in a difficult matchup in the CFL is to force teams to turn the ball over. The Tiger-Cats' easiest path to stopping the Roughriders' strong offensive production is to force Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris to turn the ball over. That will require a combination of pressuring Harris and having a wounded Tiger-Cats defensive secondary step up despite the absence of Stavros Katsantonis and Jamal Peters. So while it will be difficult for Hamilton to stop the Roughriders' run game and efficient passing game, creating turnovers is their best option for accomplishing that task.
Game Prediction:
Hamilton Tiger-Cats 32, Saskatchewan Roughriders 29
