The Chicago Bears are slated to work out defensive back Douglas Coleman III of the Ottawa Redblacks per Aaron Wilson. Coleman played safety in college and has started this past season as a strong-side linebacker with the Ottawa RedBlacks.

His performance against Edmonton in week 4 in which he had 5 tackles and an interception earned his name to be listed on the Pro Football Focus Team of the Week in week 4.

Coleman was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2020 but was waived during final roster cuts. He signed with the Ottawa RedBlacks practice squat in October of 2021.

Coleman played the entirety of his collegiate career at Texas Tech where he played in 45 games with 25 starts. He recorded 128 tackles (99 solo, 29 assisted), 27 passes defended, and 11 interceptions with Texas Tech.

He started all 12 games at safety in his senior year in 2019 and became the first Red Raider to generate 8 interceptions in the Big 12 era in a season all of which came against power-five opponents. He finished the season tied for second all-time for most Big 12 interceptions in a season. It was also his strongest season in tackles and passes defended as he had 50 solo tackles, 13 assisted tackles, and 10 passes defended.
