Chris Streveler is definitely a success story. After leaving the University of Minnesota due to a failed transition to Wide Receiver, Streveler would attend the University of South Dakota where he quickly became one of the more dynamic players in the FCS winning the MVFC Offensive Player of the Year in 2017.
Streveler would go undrafted in 2018, turning down NFL workouts before signing with the Blue Bombers. Streveler quicly became a fan favorite in Winnipeg, where he would lead the CFL in rushing touchdowns in 2019 and would also lead the Bombers to a Grey Cup that same season. Though many could say Streveler’s personality could also rival his play as seen during his Grey Cup Celebrations. But Streveler aspirations led his career down south.
After working out with the Buccaneers, Dolphins, and Cardinals in 2020, Streveler would join Arizona and appear in seven games over two seasons. Arizona would release Streveler in November however, the Ravens would add him to their practice squad until the end of the season. As of right now Streveler has not been offered a futures contract by the Ravens. But does that mean Streveler is open to a CFL return?
Well, I would Imagine he’d try to exhaust all NFL offers but if no team offers a legitimate shot at making a 53-man roster could Streveler reunite with former Blue Bombers OC Paul LaPolice? LaPolice’s Ottawa Redblacks were in complete disarray especially in the Quarterback room. Dominque Davis, Matt Nichols, Davlin Hodges, and Caleb Evans amassed for 2,725 passing yards and Eight Passing touchdowns.
Streveler could provide much needed stability for the Redblacks with an impressive and diverse resume in both the professional and collegiate ranks Streveler could at least provide mentorship for a younger quarterback room. Regardless the Redblacks specifically are in need of an upgrade immediately at the position and Streveler definitely provides that.
Is Streveler the answer for the Redblacks and is any CFL team on his agenda, honestly only he knows. However, no matter what team signs “Streveler the Leveller”, they’ll be gaining an extremely valuable asset who can contribute through the air and on the ground.
