As of Friday afternoon, The Edmonton Elks have made their final wave of roster cuts before the CFL’s roster deadline. In addition to the wave of players released, several players have been signed to Edmonton’s practice squad, suspended list, and active roster.
Something key to note is the release of quarterback Drew Anderson and the signing of CFL veteran quarterback Dakota Prukop. Prukop spent 3 seasons (2017 through 2019) with the Toronto Argonauts before signing with the Calgary Stampeders. He was released by Calgary on Thursday, July 29th. Additionally, while it is only required to have 1 global player on the roster, the Elks will be keeping 5.

Head coach Jaime Elizondo addressed the media on Friday afternoon regarding the teams’ gameday roster upon the CFL’s roster deadline. Elizondo noted he’s been extremely happy with the progress of the team. Due to not having the normal means of assessing players with the lack of preseason games and scrimmages, he mentioned there will be constant adjustments over the first few weeks of the season. He also noted how pleased he’s been with inside linebackers Nyles Morgan and Keishawn Bierria, praising how well they play off of each other, their excellent football intelligence, great communication, and incredible effort.
