The Edmonton Elks travel to the nation’s capital for a Friday night clash with the Ottawa REDBLACKS.

Jackson makes debut as interim head coach

Jarious Jackson will make his head coaching debut at the game on Friday night. Jackson took over the role from Chris Jones, who was let go by the Elks earlier this week after two-plus seasons as head coach and general manager. Jackson spoke with the media about how he’s preparing for his debut.

Last minute woes

Last week marked the fourth straight game the Elks lost by only three points. In this case, the Elks had the momentum to force overtime after a lengthy drive, which resulted in the third-down, game-tying touchdown run by quarterback Dakota Prukop.

But in a recurring theme of the season thus far, the Elks’ chances to snag their first win were thwarted by inconsistency in closing out tight ball games. Kicker Boris Bede’s kick went out of bounds, followed by a quick bullet throw by Ottawa QB Dru Brown from midfield, which set up Lewis Ward’s winning field goal. It was also the third straight game the Elks lost on a walk-off field goal.

If the Elks want to snag a win on the road, they must correct their mental mistakes and give Jarious Jackson his first career win as head coach.
