Hamilton Tiger-Cats Make First Round of Cuts, 2026 Training Camp Officially Begins

The start of the 2026 CFL season is another step closer for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Earlier this week, the Tiger-Cats kicked off training camp with just the rookies for three days while head coach Scott Milanovich and his coaching staff evaluated each player to determine which players would continue to work with Hamilton at the official start of training camp. Five of the Tiger-Cats rookies did not make the cut after the first three days, a group that includes five American prospects.

Hamilton's rookie cuts on offensive side of the ball include American quarterback Jacobian Morgan, offensive lineman Nolan Gorczyca, and running back Micah Bernard. On defensive side of the ball, only two rookies were cut: defensive back Stephen Douglas and linebacker Inumidun Ayo-Durojaiye. The remaining rookies will move on to the 2026 Training Camp for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

For the remaining players, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats training camp officially begins, and to align with the start of camp, the Tiger-Cats released a full schedule of practices. On the other hand, not every player is as excited as others about the start of training camp for myriad reasons, such as personal matters or contractual issues, and in response, the Tiger-Cats tend to suspend players who fail to report to camp. This year, three players have been suspended for failure to report: American wide receiver Kyrese Rowan, American defensive lineman Branson Deen, and American defensive lineman Brandon Deen.

This week, the Tiger-Cats coaching staff will continue evaluating players. The team is preparing for the Black and Gold Kickoff event on May 17th. Several players will be fighting to get through the next round of roster cuts before Hamilton begins pre-season games. For new players on the roster, this week will be the most important of their CFL careers so far.
