After two days of Rookie Mini-Camp, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats already have an injury concern. Just before practices began, the Tiger-Cats moved American defensive lineman TyJuan Garbutt to the injured list as an Injured Veteran. In 2025, Garbutt missed twelve regular-season games due to injury and finished with 9 solo tackles and 1.0 sack.
While moving Garbutt to the injured list before training camp is a loss for Hamilton's defensive line, the injury to Garbutt creates an opportunity for another potential playmaker. According to a press release by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the CFL Transactions list, the newest addition to the Tiger-Cats roster is American defensive end Mitchell Agude. Agude is coming to the CFL after being released by the Houston Gamblers of the UFL.

Mitchell Agude is a 6'4", 250-pound defensive end who brings NFL experience to the Tiger-Cats defensive line. Agude started his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins. During the 2024 and 2025 NFL seasons, Agude spent time with the Detroit Lions. While with the Lions, Agude played in four games and recorded 2 solo tackles, 1 assist, and 1 forced fumble.
Before starting his professional football career, Agude played college football at Riverside Junior College for two seasons (2017-2018), then transferred to UCLA (2020-2021), where he played 19 games with 43 solo tackles, 35 assists, 2.5 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. In 2022, Agude transferred to the University of Miami and played 12 games, registering 21 solo tackles, 18 assists, and 1 forced fumble.
Known for his high motor, Agude has developed a reputation for relentless pursuit of the ball. Demonstrating a consistent habit of chasing plays, he stands out for his ability to force turnovers, potentially making him an impact player for the Tiger-Cats' defensive front seven. Despite this, Agude's need for a more refined pass-rush arsenal and his vulnerability in the run game due to strength deficiencies have been limiting factors. Motivated by a desire to return to the NFL, he is likely to be committed to improving as a player during his time with the Tiger-Cats.
