The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have announced that they have signed five American players as they prepare for the 2023 season. On offence, Hamilton signed running back Tayon Fleet-Davis, offensive lineman Gannon Grider, wide receiver Brennan Eagles, and wide receiver Neil Pau’u. Defensively, the Tiger-Cats signed former All-SEC defensive back DeMarkus Acy.
Let’s take a look at the value each of these players brings to the Tiger-Cats 2023 roster.
Offensive Additions
The Tiger-Cats have made building up American roster depth in their offensive skills positions. Also, adding quality offensive line talent is a constant need that most CFL teams are always looking to improve.
Tayon Fleet-Davis is a 6’0″, 213-pound running back who played 42 games at the University of Maryland. Fleet -Davis also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022. At Maryland, Fleet-Davis played in 42 games from 2017 to 2021, he ran for 1,343 yards and 15 touchdowns, and he had 52 catches for 549 yards and four touchdowns.
Brennan Eagles is a 6’4″, 229-pound wide receiver that played at the University of Texas from 2018 to 2022. During his time with the Longhorns, he produced 61 receptions for 1,026 yards and 11 touchdowns while playing 32 games. Eagles spent the 2022 USFL season with the Philadelphia Stars, and in 2021 he was an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys and spent time with the Green Bay Packers.
Neil Pau’u is a 6’4″, 215-pound wide receiver that played at Brigham Young University from 2017-2021. In 2022, Pau’u spent time with the Buffalo Bills. While playing BYU, he produced 1,484 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Gannon Grider is a 6’7″, 310-pound offensive lineman at Benedictine University from 2018 to 2022. Grider brings an exceptional physical build to the Tiger-Cats offensive line. During his college career, Grider played right tackle.
Defensive Addition
DeMarkus Acy is a 6’2″, 195-pound defensive back native of Dallas, Texas. Acy played in 47 games while playing at the University of Missouri. During his college career, Acy produced 99 tackles, six tackles for loss, three interceptions, 23 pass breakups, forced a fumble, and had one fumble recovery. During the 2020 NFL season, he spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. He also spent time with the Washington Commanders and Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2021 NFL season.
