The Montreal Alouettes announced a major off-season move on Wednesday with the extension of American linebacker Tyrice Beverette through the 2026 season. He was previously signed through the 2025 season after extending last offseason. Beverette was one of the most impactful players in the CFL over the past season playing at the weakside linebacker spot for Montreal. Montreal extended kicker Jose Maltos on Thursday.
“Tyrice had an amazing year with us. He is definitely one of our leaders on defense, and this signing is huge for our team.” stated Alouettes’ General Manager Danny Maciocia “I remain convinced that the best is yet to come for him. In 2025, he will be playing his fourth year with the Alouettes, and I truly believe he will continue his success.”
Over the 2024 season, Beverette recorded 102 tackles, 5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions. In the playoff loss to Toronto, he added 4 tackles including 2 solo run stops. He was named the East Division Finalist for Most Outstanding Defensive Player this past season as well as to the CFL All-Star Team.
Beverette had a very strong season in 2023 as well for Montreal as he recorded 89 tackles, 20 special teams tackles, 7 sacks, and scored 2 touchdowns over the regular season. He was a cornerstone of the team as the linebacking group saw numerous injuries early in the season. Over the Alouettes’ Grey Cup run he made 22 tackles including 3 solo run stops and was in on 2 assisted run stops. He was an East Division All-Star in each of the last 2 seasons.
The Montreal Alouettes extended Mexican kicker Jose Maltos through the 2025 season on Thursday. Maltos had a strong season filling in for injured David Cote. He made 33 of his 36 field goals including a longest of 53 yards over the regular season and 22 of his 24 extra points. He went 3 for 3 in the playoff loss to Toronto with the longest being from 47 yards and added an extra point.
“Jose went from the practice squad to a regular player in the middle of the season.” Stated Danny Maciocia. “He delivered every time he was called upon, and he did so with unwavering consistency. Pressure seems to motivate him. He deserves all the success he’s had.”
