Montreal Alouettes Sign WR/KR DeVonte Dedmon, 2021 Most Outstanding Special Teams Player

The Montreal Alouettes announced on Friday the signing of American wide receiver and return specialist DeVonte Dedmon to a one-year contract.

Devonte Dedmon played in 8 games for Ottawa this past season, which saw him return 22 kickoffs for 513 yards (23.3 average) and 20 punts for 232 yards (11.6 average).

“We’ve just acquired one of the fastest playmakers in the CFL,” stated Alouettes’ General Manager Danny Maciocia. “With his electrifying returns, he has the ability to change the outcome of games. We are extremely happy to welcome him to our team.”

Dedmon entered the league in 2019 and has since played in 42 regular-season games, all of which were with Ottawa. He has returned 128 kickoffs for 3,347 yards, averaging 26.1 yards per return with 3 touchdowns. He has returned 151 punts for 1,985 yards (13.1 average) and 3 touchdowns. On offense, he has caught 25 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown and rushed 18 times for 88 yards and a touchdown.

Dedmon was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2021, which was a season he returned 49 kickoffs for an average of 25 yards per return (1,223 total yards) and a touchdown, and 48 punt returns averaging 15.4 yards per return (737 total yards) and 2 touchdowns.

His play in the CFL led to him signing with the Miami Dolphins in 2022, and he appeared in 1 preseason game, which saw him return a kickoff for 20 yards.

He played his collegiate ball with William & Mary, appearing in 44 games with 22 starts. He caught 151 passes with the program for 2,025 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also rushed 41 times for 240 yards (5.85 average) and a touchdown. He returned 55 kickoffs for the program for 1,364 yards (24.8 average) and a touchdown, and 19 punt returns for 184 yards (9.68 average) and a touchdown.
