Calgary Stampeders Extend QB Vernon Adams Jr. Through 2028

The Calgary Stampeders signed quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. to a two-year contract extension on Thursday. The deal keeps him with the Red and White through the 2028 season.

Adams' previous contract was set to expire after the 2026 campaign. The Stampeders acquired Adams in a trade with the BC Lions on November 26, 2024.

Dickenson on the Extension

Calgary general manager and head coach Dave Dickenson released a statement after the announcement.

"We are excited to extend Vernon for two more years through the 2028 season," Dickenson said. "Consistent quarterback play is vital to maintain long-term success. We've prioritized getting as many core players extended as possible and, by extending Vernon, we've secured another long-term piece to our organization."

Vernon Adams Jr.'s 2025 Season With Calgary

Adams played and started 17 regular season games in his first year with the Stampeders. He posted an 11-6 record as the starter.

His 2025 passing numbers:

  • 280 of 429 attempts (65.3%)

  • 4,247 yards

  • 21 touchdowns

  • 14 interceptions

  • 1 two-point convert

On the ground, Adams added 40 carries for 332 yards, two touchdowns and two two-point conversions.

In the Western Semi-Final, Adams completed 23 of 33 passes for 334 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions. He carried the ball three times for 24 yards in the playoff game.

Adams Reacts to the New Deal

Adams shared his reaction in a statement released by the team.

"I'm very grateful and very thankful for the opportunity that has been given to me and for the chance to extend my time with the team for another two years," Adams said. "I love it here in Calgary, I love my teammates and I've always wanted to play for the White Horse. What we did last year was a great start and I'm very excited to build on that. God Bless and Go Stamps."

Adams enters his 10th CFL season in 2026. The 33-year-old Pasadena, California native has suited up for the Montreal Alouettes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders.

  • 49-28 record as a starter

  • 1,433 of 2,219 passing (64.6%)

  • 20,437 passing yards

  • 117 passing touchdowns

  • 68 interceptions

  • 345 carries for 1,976 rushing yards

  • 26 rushing touchdowns

What's Next for the Stampeders

The Stampeders open the 2026 CFL season with Adams under center. Calgary reached the Western Semi-Final last year before falling short of the West Final.
