Montreal Alouettes: The Alouettes are coming off a big 34-13 win over Ottawa last week that saw Davis Alexander throw for 420 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tyson Philpot continued his video game-like season with 9 catches for 184 yards while Tyler Snead also had a monster game, catching 8 passes for 174 yards and a touchdown. Cole Spieker had 2 catches for 17 yards, which were both touchdowns.
Travis Theis rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
Edmonton Elks: The Edmonton Elks are coming off a close 26-28 loss to Saskatchewan. Cody Fajardo completed 22 of 28 passes for 286 yards and a touchdown. Justin Rankin was limited to 28 rushing yards on 8 carries with 1 rushing touchdown. Alouettes Keys to the Game
Keep Davis Alexander Efficient and Aggressive
Montreal will remain a very difficult team to beat as long as Alexander keeps playing at the level that he has been.
Exploit Big-Play Opportunities with Philpot and Snead
Teams know a lot of targets are going to be regularly going to Philpot and Snead, but teams are struggling to slow them down. With players like Alexander Hollins and Cole Spieker also in the receiving room, it is difficult for defenses to focus on stopping one player.
Contain Justin Rankin and Limit the Run
Rankin was held in check last week but remains a threat. Montreal’s front seven needs to stay disciplined against the run and force Edmonton into obvious passing situations. Last week saw Montreal hold their opponent’s running backs to just 23 yards on 9 carries.
Limit Cody Fajardo’s Time to Throw
Fajardo has often been an effective quarterback when playing under pressure throughout his CFL career. Montreal needs to get pressure on him in an effective fashion to limit his time in the pocket.
Alouettes to Watch
10 QB Davis Alexander
Alexander leads the league in passing with 2,788 yards and 14 touchdowns with only 1 interception over 8 games.
6 WR Tyson Philpot
Philpot’s numbers are ridiculous so far this season, with him having hauled in 54 catches for 1,023 yards and 4 touchdowns over 8 games so far this season.
85 WR Tyler Snead
Snead has caught 50 passes for 794 yards and 5 touchdowns so far this season, making him 2nd in receiving across the league so far.

Score Prediction:
I am predicting the Edmonton Elks to win 35-33. Montreal is without DT Mustafa Johnson this week and already has one of the higher yards allowed per rush at 5.8. Offenses often avoid rushing against Montreal as they try to keep pace with Montreal’s offense, but if Edmonton can get their ground game going at a level we have seen oftentimes this season, then they could take control of this game.
