Report: Montreal Alouettes Agree to Sign WR Tevin Jones

Per JC Abbott on Wednesday, the Montreal Alouettes have reached an agreement to sign American wide receiver Tevin Jones. It is expected to be a 1-year deal. CFL free agency does not open until February 13 so a contract cannot be signed until that date however, teams are allowed to speak to players now.

WR Tevin Jones – Memphis (31 y/o, 6’2, 225 lbs)

Tevin Jones had a breakout year this past season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He played in 17 games recording 65 receptions for 882 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jones finished 14th in the league in receiving yards last season. He was 13th in YAC (yards after catch) with 316.

He played his first CFL season with Saskatchewan as well in 2022 which he played in 14 games and had 20 receptions for 265 yards and 3 touchdowns.

s played for Memphis from 2011 to 2015 appearing in 51 games over which time he recorded 90 receptions for 1,215 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Jones signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He has since spent time with other NFL teams primarily on practice squads including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was initially signed with the Roughriders in 2021 but left to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2019 he played in 5 games with the Steelers and caught 4 passes for 61 yards.

Jones showed last season to be a capable receiver and had 9 games with over 50 yards receiving. This signing adds a lot of value to Montreal’s receiving room after losing Austin Mack to the Atlanta Falcons.
