The Calgary Stampeders overcame a slow start to defeat the BC Lions 26-16 in CFL preseason action on Monday at Starlight Stadium. The is the first preseason game of the 2025 season. The Stampeders relied on a strong ground game that produced three rushing touchdowns while their defense clamped down after allowing an early score.
Both teams will continue their preseason preparations with the regular season set to begin in June. This first preseason game provided coaches with valuable film to evaluate roster battles as final cuts approach in the coming weeks.
Calgary showed promise in their ground attack and defensive front seven, while BC displayed explosive potential in the passing game despite inconsistent execution. But remember, this is just preseason. It could all mean nothing when teams do it for real on June 5th when the these Lions take on the Blue Bombers.
P.J Walker may not have had impressive numbers, but he didn’t do anything that would give B.C. a leg up, and that is what was impressive about his first start in the CFL. He didn’t force any issues, and that is what is needed in a QB in the CFL.
