The Winnipeg Blue Bombers made out like bandits with giving up draft picks to get Dru Brown from Ottawa!
Some may have looked at that trade and thought that Winnipeg got fleeced. But when we see what has happened after that trade, I would say Winnipeg won the day.

So Far In 2026

Somehow Dru Brown did not have the blessing of Dinwiddie, despite the fac that Ottawa was not winning games in 2026 with quarterback Jake Maier.

Ryan Dinwiddie servs as both the head coach and the general manager for the Ottawa Redblacks. And so, when the Bombers came knocking, Dinwiddie was more than happy to deal Dru Brown to the Bombers.

Consider this, the Ottawa Redblacks have had Maier, Brown, Duggan, through weeks 1-3, and then Maier, Barnes, Vattiato, Bethel-Thompson, for weeks 4-6. To Say Ottawa has no clue what they are doing at the quarterback position would be an understatement. The only consistent part is that Maier has been the starting quarterback. But at 0-5, you have to wonder how long that will remain that fact.

What’s worse for Ottawa is that Dinwiddie has singed a contract through to the end of the 2028 season. That does not mean that Ottawa cannot walk away from him. But it does mean that they would have to continue to pay his salary, and with a hard cap of coaching …that leaves Ottawa fairly strapped cash wise to make a different hire.

So how does this relate to Winnipeg? Had Ottawa not given all the reigns to Dinwiddie, Ottawa may not have been so quick to deal on Brown. It is also plausible that is there was a separate head coach who was not also the general manager, then Ottawa would not have dealt Brown at all. With the moves that Ottawa has made in quarterbacking, they are essentially saying that Bethel-Thompson gives them a better chance to win than Brown does.

Well, Montreal did not think that Bethel-Thompson was worth re-signing, and Montreal is currently 3-1 in the 2026 season. On the other hand, Ottawa is now 0-5, and Dru Brown is 1-0 in the 2026 season.

What I Saw From Brown Vs Toronto

Truth Bombs – Winnipeg Cashes In On Ottawa’s Mismanagement

1 touchdown and 1 interception is not that impressive, if I am being honest.

I look at these numbers and say that he had a good day. Was it outstanding? No. Did he absolutely light it up? I would not say so. But I would also say that he did more than just enough to win. I was impressed with what I saw.

Here is what I saw. I saw a quarterback that threw an intermediate ball to the right side of the field that was almost picked off by a defender. And then not too long after, I saw the exact same route run, and a way better ball thrown for a completion.

I saw a quarterback that has some serious zip on the ball. When Brown was trying to get the ball into tight windows he slinged it. Had Matt Dunagan be commentating, I would have expected him to say, “That’s sling nasty!”

That is why it is even more mind boggling that Ottawa dealt him.

At the time of writing this article, it is unclear if Collaros or Brown starts for the Bombers this Sunday when the Bombers travel to Ottawa. I will say this, if Collaros can play the Bombers will play Collaros. But, boy, would it sure be interesting to see Brown take on Ottawa.

Who will start for the Bombers at quarterback, and who should start for the Bombers?

And also, who starts for Ottawa at quarterback, and who should?
