Who Are The Montreal Alouettes’ Free Agents?

The Montreal Alouettes have 30 pending free agents when the CFL’s free agency opens up on February 14, 2023. Several pivotal players from the 2022 Alouettes season will hit the open market including Trevor Harris, Eugene Lewis, Adarius Pickett and Wes Sutton.

Trevor Harris helped provide the Alouettes with some stability at the quarterback position after the inconsistent player of former starting QB Vernon Adams Jr. While Harris is a bit long in the tooth at age 36, he still had a very productive season in Montreal. He threw for over 4000 yards, 20 touchdowns and had only 12 interceptions in 2022. Should the Alouettes bring him back or should they pursue a younger option? Harris’ backup QB Dominique Davis is also a pending free agent, so the Alouettes could have a completely different QB combination next season.

Montreal’s Most Outstanding Player, Eugene Lewis is absolutely the Alouettes biggest pending free agent and someone that the Alouettes need to lock up. The 29-year-old wide receiver had career highs with 1303 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022. He is a dynamic offensive weapon for Montreal and is entering the prime of his career. The Alouettes will likely need to open up the cheque book to keep him because he will be one of the most sought-after offensive players in 2023.

Adarius Pickett & Wes Sutton are two excellent defensive players. Pickett was Montreal’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2022 and became a defensive force for the Alouettes in his second CFL season. Pickett & Sutton finished Top-2 on the Alouettes in defensive tackles and tied for second in quarterback sacks behind only team leader Mike Moore. Pickett & Sutton are also both only 26 years old and both just completed their second seasons in the CFL. They have immense potential and are quickly becoming defensive stars in the CFL. They would be major losses to the Alouettes defense if they decide to leave La Belle Province.
