Full Highlights
The Frankfurt Galaxy and Cologne Centurions met in the final game of the regular season for what was a very one-sided matchup. The game did not have much significance as both teams had already secured a spot in the playoffs. However, the Galaxy would get the blowout win with a final score of 45-7, moving them to a 9-1 record, while the Centurions move to a 5-5 record on the year.
Recap
It was a rough game for the Centurions, who received the opening kickoff, but could not get anything going all day. Cologne quarterback Jannik Nowak would throw an interception on the team’s opening drive, and the Galaxy would come out with a vengeance. Frankfurt would score on their first drive, with running back Gennadly Adams finding the endzone on a 3-yard run. They’d miss the PAT and take an early lead of 6-0.
When they regained possession, the Galaxy would find the endzone once again, with quarterback Moritz Johannknecht running into the endzone on a 1-yard touchdown. The score would stretch their lead to 13-0 after they’d covert the PAT. Johannknecht would start in place of Jakeb Sullivan, who sat out the week to rest for the playoffs.
In the second quarter, the Galaxy would put together another nice drive ending with quarterback Moritz Johannknecht connecting with wide receiver Nico Strahmann for a 15-yard touchdown. They’d miss the PAT, making the score 19-0.
On the next series, the Centurions would turn the ball over on downs, and the Galaxy would keep things rolling. Quarterback Moritz Johannknecht would lead Frankfurt down the field yet again, capping the drive off with an 8-yard touchdown grab from Nico Schoen. They’d again miss the PAT, moving the score to 25-0 as we approached halftime.
The Centurions defense would force a punt on the opening drive of the second half, but they were not able to capitalize on the opportunity and turned the ball over on downs.
As the end of the 3rd quarter grew near, the Galaxy would work their way into the endzone yet again, Quarterback Moritz Johannknecht would connect with wide receiver Max Siemssen for a 6-yard touchdown grab. They’d convert the PAT, increasing their lead to 32-0.
The next score came on a short completion from Galaxy quarterback Moritz Johannknecht to running back Justin Rodney, who would rocket himself over 2 defenders to get into the endzone. They’d convert the extra point attempt, increasing their already insurmountable lead to 39-0.
On the following series, the Centurions would finally put a solid drive together. They’d methodically work their way down the field, capping the drive off with a 3-yard rushing touchdown from running back Alexander Frisch, finally getting them on the board. They’d convert the PAT, making the score 39-7.
The final score of the game would come on the following kickoff return. Galaxy running back Justin Rodney would take the kickoff 99-yards to the endzone, increasing their lead to 45-7 after another missed PAT.
The Galaxy took the win with a final score of 45-7. They’d end the regular season on a 9 game winning streak, with a record of 9-1, while the Centurion move to a 5-5 record on the season.
