#5 Saskatchewan Huskies (2-1): The Huskies are fresh off of a surprise 22-26 loss at home to the Alberta Golden Bears. In the week before the Huskies won 40-6 over their provincial rivals the Regina Rams. The Huskies struggled against the run last week allowing 258 yards on an average of 9.2 yards per rush from their opponent as Matthew Peterson had a big game for Alberta.

Calgary Dinos (0-3): The Calgary Dinos showed a lot to like in their game last week despite losing 16-23. Their tackling looked a lot better in their most recent game after there was a higher frequency of missed tackles in the week before. The Dinos’ offense was more efficient as well generating 351 yards of net offense.

Huskies to Watch

QB Anton Amundrud

Amundrud completed 20 of his 38 passes last week for 266 yards and a touchdown with 2 interceptions. He did struggle against the blitz last week throwing some errant throws under pressure. He did make a lot of good throws as well pushing the ball downfield.

RB Ted Kubongo

Last week Kubongo rushed 7 times for 50 yards (7.1 average). He had a 21-yard in which he broke 3 tackles.

WR Caleb Morin

Last week Morin led the team in receiving yards catching 5 passes for 81 yards. He broke a tackle on a 17-yard gain and his longest was a 20-yard reception.

WR Everett Iverson

Iverson had 4 catches last week for 60 yards and a touchdown.

DE Nathan Jule

Last week Jule had a QB hurry, a run stop, and helped with a stop on a pass play.

LB Ramsey Derbas

Last week Derbas had a QB hurry, a QB hit, a run stop, and helped with another run stop.

LB Nick Wiebe

Last week Wiebe had a run stop, helped with 3 run stops, and had 2 stops and a shared stop against the pass.

CB Finn Marcotte-Cribb

Marcotte-Cribb caught a tipped ball for a 45-yard pick 6 and broke up a short pass in the 4th quarter.

Dinos to Watch

QB Xavier Vaillancourt

Vaillancourt completed 19 of his 33 passes last week for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns with an interception on his first start of the season. He made some good plays such as a 12-yard pass in the face of a blitz on 2nd and long or hitting Gobb Deng in stride for a 74-yard touchdown. The interception was thrown to avoid a sack and there was also an unforced fumble on a scramble.

RB Nick Sua

Sua looked pretty good last week rushing 17 times for 77 yards. He even looked good on a loss breaking a tackle in the backfield on a play that resulted in a 2-yard loss.

WR Gobb Deng

Deng led the team in receiving yards with 91 on 3 catches. He had a 74-yard touchdown in which he burned his man and got open downfield.

WR Matt Sibley

Sibley caught 7 passes for 75 yards last week. He broke a tackle on a 15-yard gain.

DL Sylvester Ibelo

Ibelo had 2 QB hurries last week.

WLB S Odemwingie

Odemwingie had 5 solo tackles, 2 run stops, and a shared run stop as well as a QB hurry and QB hit last week.

MLB Liam Reid

Reid hurried the quarterback 5 times last week and had a QB hit and a stop against the pass. He also showed good tackling on a 5-yard run.

DB Chris Mushenza

Mushenza had 2 run stops and 3 shared run stops last week as well as a QB hurry and a QB hit.

The Dinos have shown some progress this season and are a young team but Saskatchewan is more developed and is a contender right now. I predict Saskatchewan to win 27-17.
