The Winnipeg Blue Bombers traveled to Edmonton in Week 11 for their last of 3 matchups with the Elks this season. The Bombers would win the game with a final score of 26-16, locking up a playoff spot in the process.
While they did lose the game, the Elks put up more of a fight this time around than in their previous 2 meetings. Taylor Cornelius was named the starting quarterback for the Elks early in the week, with Trevor Harris being benched and listed as a healthy scratch for this game. Cornelius started the first matchup between these teams in Week 7 but was starting in place of an injured Trevor Harris at the time.
Winnipeg took a significant loss in the 1st half of the game when their leading rusher, running back Andrew Harris, left the game with an injury following a short touchdown grab. Harris would change out of Pads at halftime and remain out the entire 2nd half.
While the Bombers have looked great this season, Kicking has been an issue for the team at times. However, Kicker Ali Mourtada had a solid game. He’d make 4 of 5 field goals on the day, his longest being from 43 yards and missing 1 from 44 yards.
While the Bombers came out with the win, Edmonton did not make things easy for them. The game went into the 4th quarter with a score of 16-16, but the Elks couldn’t get any more points on the board due to the Bombers’ stout defense. Winnipeg would hold Edmonton scoreless in the 4th quarter while their offense would score 10 more points to take the lead and seal the game.
