CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 16

Carnell IV, Maier and Bethel-Thompson named Top Performers

TORONTO (September 27, 2022) – Maurice Carnell IV, Jake Maier and McLeod Bethel-Thompson are the Canadian Football League (CFL)’s Top Performers for Week 16 of the 2022 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges made up of Matt Dunigan and Marshall Ferguson of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS, who independently send their selections to the CFL league office.

DB | MAURICE CARNELL IV | TORONTO ARGONAUTS | TOR 45 – OTT 15

• Two interceptions, including one returned 35 yards for a touchdown for his first career major
• Total of 53 return yards from his two interceptions
• Five tackles and a pass knockdown
• 2022 season: six games, 21 tackles, four interceptions and one sack
• Highlight:
  • Carnell intercepts his second pass of the game and turns it into a 35-yard TD

QB | JAKE MAIER | CALGARY STAMPEDERS | CGY 25 – BC 11

• 27-of-33 passing (81.8 per cent) for 294 yards
• 107.4 quarterback efficiency rating and two 30+ yard completions
• Eight receivers collected at least one reception
• 14 rushing yards on two carries
• 2022 season: five starts, 76.4 per cent completion rate, 1,653 passing yards and nine touchdown passes
• Highlight:
  • Maier connects with Hunchak for 33-yard gain

QB | MCLEOD BETHEL-THOMPSON | TORONTO ARGONAUTS | TOR 45 – OTT 15

• 21-of-29 passing (72.4 per cent) for 245 yards
• Tied a season-high with three touchdown passes
• Efficiency rating of 117.7
• 2022 season: League-leading 3,672 passing yards, 68 per cent completion rate and 19 touchdown passes
• Highlights:
• Ouellette scores on three-yard pass
• MBT connects with Gittens Jr. 21-yard score
• Ambles scores his fourth touchdown of the season
