The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are taking a much more aggressive approach this off-season when it comes to re-signing their pending free agents for the 2026 season. Earlier this week, the Tiger-Cats announced that they had extended the contract of cornerback Jamal Peters one day after the 2026 CFL schedule was officially released. The next pending free agent to get a contract extension is starting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell.
The Tiger-Cats announced on X and with a press release by Steve Milton that Bo Levi Mitchell has agreed to a 2-year extension with the Tiger-Cats.
During the 2025 CFL Season, Bo Levi Mitchell and Hamilton’s impressive fleet of wide receivers Kenny Lawler, Tim White, and Kiondre Smith helped the Tiger-Cats earn the #1 Seed in the East Division. In addition, the Tiger-Cats’ offensive unit ranked 3rd in the CFL in 2025. This season, Mitchell passed for 5,286 yards with 36 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. While Mitchell had talked about retiring at the end of the season, agreeing to a 2-year extension indicates he believes he can help Hamilton win a Grey Cup over the next two years.
Three years ago, Mitchell signed with the Tiger-Cats after spending the majority of his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders. During Mitchell’s first season with Hamilton, he was hit hard by injuries, but in the last two seasons, he has made up for year 1 by posting some of his best seasons to date. Since coming to Hamilton, Mitchell has played in 41 games and has passed for 11,778 passing yards along with 74 touchdown passes and 39 interceptions.
Since coming to the CFL, Mitchell has passed for 44,319 yards with 262 touchdown passes and only 128 interceptions. Mitchell is also the 8th All-Time Passer in CFL history, and he is the fastest quarterback to reach 100 career wins with only 143 career starts. Along the way, Mitchell has helped his team win two Grey Cup championships and has been named to the All-CFL team three times. He has also been selected as the Most Outstanding Player in the CFL two times.
