Montreal Alouettes Sign LB Micah Awe, Former All-UFL DT Daniel Wise

The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday the signing of linebacker Micah Awe to a 1-year deal, where the CFL veteran played in 2022. The Alouettes also announced the signing of defensive tackle Daniel Wise on Wednesday to a 2-year contract. Both players bring a lot of experience and have both been named an All-Star in their professional careers. Awe was All-CFL in 2023 with Calgary, and Wise was named All-UFL with the Michigan Panthers in 2024.

The Alouettes also announced that American running back Aaron Shampklin is retiring, who signed with the team in December.

LB Micah Awe – Texas Tech (5’11, 216 lbs)

Awe led the CFL with 114 defensive tackles over the 2025 season with the BC Lions and added 2 interceptions and a forced fumble. He added 9 tackles over the Lions’ 2 playoff games. Despite leading the league in tackles last season, Awe was released by the Lions in January, about 1 month after signing LB Darnell Sankey, who played for Montreal from 2023-25.

“The acquisition of Micah Awe will give us added depth on defense,” stated Alouettes’ General Manager Danny Maciocia. “He knows the league and our organization, and he has always prepared properly. His professionalism will help guide our younger players.”

Awe has played in 117 CFL regular-season games, logging 563 tackles, 7 sacks, and 7 interceptions.

Awe began his CFL career with the BC Lions in 2017, where he played 2 seasons before playing for Toronto in 2019. He signed with Winnipeg ahead of the cancelled 2020 season. Awe played for Ottawa in 2021. 2022 saw him play 1 game for the BC Lions and 13 for Montreal. Awe played for Calgary in 2-23 and 2024.

He played his collegiate ball for Texas Tech from 2012 to 2015, where he recorded 171 solo tackles, 95 assisted tackles, and 1.5 sacks. Awe signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2016, and recorded 6 tackles in the preseason before spending a couple of weeks on the practice squad.

DT Daniel Wise – Kansas (6’3, 279 lbs)

Daniel Wise last played in the UFL with the Michigan Panthers in 2024, which resulted in him being named to the 2024 All-UFL Team after recording 6 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, and 1.5 sacks over 5 games.

Wise played for the University of Kansas from 2015 through 2018 after redshirting in 2014. He recorded 150 total tackles, 18 sacks, three pass breakups, a forced fumble, afumble recovery, and a forced fumble force over 47 games with the program.

He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2019, where he spent the season on the practice squad. He spent part of the 2020 season on Arizona’s practice squad. He played in 17 games for Washington from 2021 to 2022, recording 5 solo tackles and 6 assisted tackles.

Wise signed to Kansas City’s practice squad in January 2023 and was with the organization during their 2023 Super Bowl. He was later waived in final cuts ahead of the 2023 season.

Wise demonstrated great run-stopping ability in 2024 with the Michigan Panthers while also being able to contribute as a pass rusher.
