As I predicted the Bombers beat the Tiger Cats in a wildly entertaining game with a score closer than Bomber fans would have wanted. With a Week 1 win in the books lets see who gets this week’s game ball and who receives the jock.
There Bombers beat the Tiger Cats by a score of 42-31, yet the score was not indicative how the game actually unfolded. The Bombers led in almost every statistical category, amassing 478 yards of offence compared to Hamilton’s 239 yards of total offence.
What caused the score to be a lot closer than what actually transpired on the field? A fumble by Collaros leading immediately to a Hamilton touchdown, and a fumble by Grant on the ensuing kickoff – leading immediately to another Hamilton touchdown – made the score look a lot close than the game was. Those two plays can be seen right here.
Game Ball
There could be many game balls to hand out to Bomber players.
However, I have to give the game ball to Bomber’s running back Brady Oliveira. Oliveira had 22 carries for 106 yards, one touchdown and a long run of 28 yards.
Bomber fans will recall that early in the 2022 season fans were not convinced that Oliveira should be the Bomber’s featured back.
Nic Demski comes in as a very close second with his 6 receptions on 7 targets for 113 yards and a touchdown. The deciding factor this week is that Demski did what Demski usually does whereas Oliveira is still carving out and making a name for himself.
For putting the haters from 2022 on notice, Oliveira, you get my game ball.
Jock
The whole Hamilton Tiger Cats team get the jock this week! If the two big plays gave Hamilton a chance of winning the game, their undisciplined play was their undoing. Taking 14 penalties resulting in 121 yards the Tiger Cats lost their season opener again! That makes 15 times in 17 season that the Tiger Cats lost their season opener. On the other side of the field the Bombers only took 3 penalties for 10 yards!
For your undisciplined play, taking away any chance of winning the game, Hamilton, you get the jock.
Make sure to let me know in the comments who would have received your game ball and jock.
