The Canadian Football League does not kick off until June 6th, but that won’t stop fans and experts from speculating about which teams have what it takes to succeed in the 2024 Grey Cup.
Following last season’s surprise triumph of the Toronto Argonauts, fans are currently scouring the best sports betting sites in Canada to find the best odds for their team in 2024.
Betting expert Neil Roarty cites the choice of sport and betting markets, quality of odds, promotions, and security as some of the top features that CFL fans should look for when searching for a new sports bookmaker or crypto gambling site, and the Argonauts are currently favoured to repeat their feat with odds of +225 to win the title again. The Blue Bombers are a close second at +250.
Dating back 115 years, the inaugural Grey Cup was held in 1909 and named after Earl Grey who commissioned the trophy. The Toronto Varsity Blues were the first to lift the trophy which has had somewhat of a troubled past, being broken seven times, damaged in a fire in 1947, and has even been held to ransom.
This season’s favourites for the Grey Cup were defeated by the Montreal Alouettes on their way to glory last season. First, the Toronto Argonauts went down 38-17 in the Eastern Conference final before the Alouettes went on to defeat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Grey Cup by 28 to 24.
Both teams will be hopeful of going the distance this year, with both teams the runaway favourites for their respective divisions and Grey Cup. The Argonauts will be hoping to retain the cup they won in 2022 with a narrow 24-23 win over the Blue Bombers.
The Blue Bombers on the other hand have appeared in the last four finals, losing the last two but defeating the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2019 and 2021.
Joining the Argonauts and the Blue Bombers in the eyes of the bookmakers are the Alouettes and the BC Lions. The Alouettes will still be riding high after last season’s heroics and that confidence could see them go all the way again.
The Lions can be found with similar odds to the Alouettes this season, but one thing in their favour is the location of this year’s final. The 2024 Grey Cup will be held at the BC Place stadium on November 17th. This home advantage could be the spark to get the Lions their first championship since 2011.
The Argonauts were the favourites last year, and not much has changed. Despite a disappointing performance from QB Chad Kelly in the East final, his outstanding season last year will hopefully continue and give Ryan Dinwiddie the opportunity to coach the Argos to a championship title.
The Blue Bombers’ head coach Mike O’Shea has Zach Collaros and Brady Oliveira on his roster to give his side another great chance of making the final this year. After an impressive financial year, they will be hoping to add some silverware to their riches.
At the moment it seems to be between the Argonauts and Blue Bombers, but when the action starts we will get a better idea of who is ready to lead the charge.
