The 2023 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft concluded with a wave of fresh talent joining the ranks. From versatile offensive linemen to playmaking wide receivers, this year’s draft class promises to have a significant impact on the league’s future.

Let’s take a closer look at the first round and notable selections throughout the draft.

In Round 1, the Ottawa Redblacks selected Dontae Bull, an imposing offensive lineman from Fresno State, with the first overall pick. Standing at 6’6″ and weighing 324 pounds, Bull brings size and strength to the Redblacks’ offensive line.

The Edmonton Elks followed by choosing Michael Brodrique, a 6’3″ linebacker out of the University of Montreal. Brodrique, born on August 21, 1998, provides the Elks with a dynamic defensive presence.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders selected Lake Korte-Moore, a 6’3″, 264-pound defensive lineman from the University of British Columbia, with the third overall pick. Born on November 17, 1999, Korte-Moore will boost the Roughriders’ defensive line.

In a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the Calgary Stampeders acquired the fourth overall pick, selecting Cole Tucker, a 6’2″, 195-pound wide receiver from Northern Illinois University. Tucker, born on June 7, 1999, adds speed and playmaking ability to the Stampeders’ receiving corps.

Among the notable selections in later rounds, the Ottawa Redblacks picked local product James Peter, a 5’10”, 220-pound linebacker from the University of Ottawa, with the 12th overall pick. Acquired through trades with Hamilton and Edmonton, Peter bolsters the Redblacks’ linebacker depth.

In Round 3, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers chose Jeremy Murphy, a 6’0″, 180-pound wide receiver from Concordia University. Born on May 14, 1999, Murphy is expected to make an impact in the Bombers’ passing game.

The Edmonton Elks made an intriguing territorial pick in Round 2, selecting Jacob Taylor, a 6’2″, 215-pound linebacker from the University of Alberta. Born on December 1, 2001, Taylor brings local talent and defensive prowess to the Elks.

Overall, the 2023 CFL Draft introduced a talented pool of players who are set to make an impact in the league for years to come. With a mix of size, speed, and local talent, the future of the CFL is looking bright.
