This is the marquee matchup of the week, and it might be the best game the West has to offer all season. Edmonton sits at 5-1 and has won two straight, including a nail-biter over BC last week. Saskatchewan is right behind at 4-1 after absolutely torching Hamilton 38-7 in Week 6. Both teams are playing complementary football right now, and something has to give when they share a field Thursday.
The Riders have been nearly unbeatable at home this year and their defense has been the story of the season — allowing just 133 points through five games, best mark among West clubs in this preview. Edmonton counters with a balanced attack that's found ways to win ugly, including a 19-17 grind-it-out win over BC last time out.
Players to Watch:
- Cody Fajardo (Edmonton Elks, QB) — 147-of-210 for 1,781 yards and 9 TDs, and he knows this building better than anyone suiting up for the Elks.
- Justin Rankin (Edmonton Elks, RB) — 522 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns on just 74 carries, a home-run threat every time he touches it.
- KeeSean Johnson (Saskatchewan Roughriders, WR) — 36 catches for 479 yards and 3 scores, the security blanket Saskatchewan leans on in big spots.
Injury Watch:
- Carter O'Donnell (Edmonton Elks, OL) — Doubtful, and Edmonton just placed him on single-game injury Tuesday, a real concern up front against a Riders D-line getting healthier.
- Tyron Vrede (Edmonton Elks, LB) — Doubtful, extended to single-game injury this week.
- Nelson Lokombo (Saskatchewan Roughriders, DB) — Out, though Saskatchewan got a boost getting Rolan Milligan back from six-game injury and Benoit Marion back from single-game injury this week.
- Mathew Sexton (Saskatchewan Roughriders, WR) — Out, transferred to six-game injury Tuesday.
Pick: Saskatchewan Roughriders 27-23. The Riders are 3-1-1 ATS this season and have hammered the over three times, and getting healthy bodies back on defense right before hosting a banged-up Edmonton O-line is a tough combination to beat.

Quick Hits
- Saskatchewan added defensive lineman Liam Hoskins off the practice roster this week, giving the Riders another body up front for this heavyweight clash.
- Edmonton's offensive line takes a hit with Carter O'Donnell doubtful and Brett Boyko questionable, a scary combination against a Saskatchewan front that's been stout all year.
- If you're rostering KeeSean Johnson in fantasy, this is the spot — Edmonton's secondary has been banged up with both Royce Metchie and Tyrell Ford's health worth monitoring.
- This is a clash of the West's top two records outside Montreal, and a Saskatchewan win would put the Riders in a virtual tie with Edmonton atop the division standings.
