On Wednesday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced they would be starting Dane Evans in the 108th Grey Cup. Evans, who filled in for Jeremiah Masoli during a 27-19 win over the Argonauts on Sunday, completed all 16 of his passes for 249 yards and a touchdown. He also had two rushing scores to cap off the phenomenal comeback performance.Â
Evans was Hamilton’s starter during the last Grey Cup in 2019. In a 33-12 loss to the Blue Bombers, he completed 16 of 27 passes for 203 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Evans saw increased playing time that season after Masoli was ruled out with an injury. In 2021, the Tiger-Cats are looking to get their revenge, and they believe Evans is the right guy to lead the way.
Evans will have to meet some high expectations, as Hamilton will be playing at home for the championship game. Winnipeg also happens to be a difficult opponent, boasting the CFL’s best record. Evans is certainly familiar with them, but it probably won’t make things much easier. In order for the Tiger-Cats to be crowned champions, they will need more than just their quarterback to pull off a huge upset.Â
