Montreal Alouettes Extend Shawn Lemon Through 2024 Season

The Montreal Alouettes announced on Thursday they have signed Shawn Lemon to a 1 year contract extension keeping him in the nest for at least 1 more season. The Lemonator was a key part of the Alouettes’ defense which saw Montreal win their last 8 games including the 110th Grey Cup.

“Shawn had an immediate impact on our defense and he did an excellent job of manhandling opposing quarterbacks.” Alouettes’ General Manager, Danny Maciocia stated.”He arrived in the middle of the season and adapted to the team chemistry instantly. He has been an excellent veteran for our young players and he fully deserves what is happening to him. We are happy that he is coming back with us.”

Shawn Lemon made 26 tackles, 9 sacks, and four pass breakups in 13 games this season. He also had 2 interceptions and a forced fumble that he returned for a touchdown. Notably Lemon had 2 sacks in the Eastern Semi-Final against Hamilton sacking both Matthew Schiltz and Bo Levi Mitchell. He also had a sack in the Grey Cup.

Over the 3 playoff games, Lemon had 9 tackles, a forced fumble, 3 run stops, and a stop against the pass. Lemon was effective in the pass rush generating 3 sacks and 4 QB hurries over the postseason.

Lemon has played in 148 games over his CFL career contributing 257 defensive tackles, 101 sacks, and 31 forced fumbles.

Since Lemon joined the Alouettes they have had much success from both of their defensive ends Shawn Lemon and Lwal Uguak. Montreal fans can now look forward to at least 1 more season of this pairing.
