The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday that they have signed Canadian wide receiver Tyson Philpot to a 2-year contract, keeping him in the nest through the 2027 season. The 25-year-old was previously slated to hit free agency had a deal not been reached.

Philpot had career highs in receptions and receiving yards this past season as he caught 61 of his 99 targets for 804 yards and 5 touchdowns over 12 games. He played in all 3 games for Montreal in the playoffs, catching 20 of his 27 targets for 252 yards. He had the most yards in a game over this past CFL postseason when he caught 10 of his 11 targets for 135 yards and a touchdown in the Eastern Semi-Final and later hauled in 5 passes for 87 yards in the Grey Cup.
“This is excellent news for our team,” stated Alouettes General Manager Danny Maciocia. “Tyson is one of the best receivers in the league- he’s agile, fast, and if a ball comes near him, we know he’s going to catch it. He’s only 25; I believe he still hasn’t reached his ceiling. This is truly a great day for us.”
Philpot has a past of making an impact in the playoffs. He played in 5 playoff games over 2022-2023 and caught 27 passes for 301 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a game-winning touchdown in the 2023 Grey Cup with 13 seconds left in the game.
Philpot has played in 52 regular-season games for Montreal since being drafted 9th overall in the 2022 CFL Draft. Over that span, he has caught 205 passes for 2,574 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has 5 touchdowns in each of his last 3 seasons.
Maciocia has been quick to get his offseason tasks done. The Philpot extension comes 1 day after Montreal signed star LG Pier-Olivier Lestage to a 3-year extension.
Montreal has a big job off their to-do list with this deal being done. They have more work to do with American starting receivers Charleston Rambo and Cole Spieker not under contract. They also have Alexander Hollins, currently on a trajectory to free agency, who himself was a back-to-back 1,000-yard receiver with BC before joining Montreal.
