The Toronto Argonauts are on a tear, re-signing key players from their Grey Cup Championship team. The Boatmen announced on Sunday morning that they had brought back DaShaun Amos for the 2023 season. The veteran CFL DB stays in the Six, rejoining teammate Royce Metchie in the secondary, who also re-upped with Toronto two days ago.
On a day when the negotiation window has opened up for all pending CFL free agents, in the leadup to the market opening on February 14th. The Argos continue to keep their championship core intact.
The veteran presence and synergy of DaShaun ‘Famousss’ Amos reuniting with his former Calgary cohorts in Toronto was a vital asset for the Argos last season. Amos and Metchie teamed up as one of the headiest duos in the backend of Toronto’s secondary last season. The pairing and their chemistry with DBs coach Joshua Bell proved beneficial for Double Blue. In a secondary, that was also expertly orchestrated by assistant William Fields, who helped incorporate a lot of neophyte CFL contributors.
And then there were 15; the Argonauts started this process with 26 pending free agents. However, that list has been whittled down significantly. Thanks to the stellar work of General Manager Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons, Vince Magri, and a terrific support staff.
The remaining Argos’ free agents are as follows: For those keeping score at home.
QB: McLeod Bethel Thompson, RB: A.J. Ouellette, RB: Andrew Harris, WR: DaVaris Daniels, WR: Eric Rogers, WR: Juwan Brescasin, WR: Markeith Ambles, OL: Philip Blake, OL: Justin Lawrence, DE: JaGared Davis, DE: Shane Ray, DT: Fabion Foote, LB: Chris Edwards, LB: Henoc Muamba, and DB: Shaq Richardson.
Don’t blink; there could be more moves on the way.
