Calgary Stampeders Shuffle Roster: Ja’Gared Davis Returns, Brad Muhammad & Alex Tchangam Join Practice Squad

In a series of strategic moves, the Calgary Stampeders have announced roster changes aimed at reinforcing their defence. The most notable of these includes the reacquisition of American defensive lineman Ja’Gared Davis from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Stampeders parted ways with a sixth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft to bring the seven-year veteran back into the fold. Davis, a critical asset, boasts an impressive record. His career with the Red and White during his first three seasons yielded 23 sacks in 45 games, and he helped the team reach the Grey Cup games each year, securing a championship in 2018.

A decorated player with another Grey Cup ring earned as a member of the Argonauts in 2022, Davis’s re-arrival was welcomed by Stampeders general manager and head coach, Dave Dickenson.

In his 94-game CFL career, Davis boasts 49 sacks, 259 defensive tackles, 17 tackles for loss, three interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries. His prowess has earned him the title of two-time division all-star.

The Stampeders have also enlisted American defensive back Brad Muhammad and American defensive lineman Alex Tchangam to their practice roster. Muhammad, returning for his second stint with the team, has 64 defensive tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble to his name. Meanwhile, Tchangam, who spent time on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad in 2021, made his mark at Colorado with 20 tackles, three sacks, and one forced fumble.

To

make room for the new arrivals, the team has released American offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch and American receiver Jahleel Billingsley. Benenoch had two starts for Calgary earlier this season while Billingsley spent two weeks on the practice roster.

In the coming days, these roster adjustments will be put to the test when the Calgary Stampeders face the Montreal Alouettes on Sunday, July 30, kick-off at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
