The Edmonton Elks look to gain ground in a tight Western Division playoff race as they face the division-leading Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Heading to week 16, Edmonton sits in fourth position at 5-8, one point back of Saskatchewan for the last playoff spot in the division.

Tre Ford to start under centre

Elks quarterback Tre Ford will make his first start since he suffered an injury in week ten versus BC. Interim Head Coach Jarious Jackson decided during the team’s bye week. Through two starts and three appearances for the Elks this season, Ford has a perfect 2-0 record, throwing for 473 yards with five touchdowns and an interception.

Ford will face a Winnipeg defence that is tops in the CFL in points allowed (21.1), net yards allowed (325.4), and passing yards allowed (238.6).

The Niagara Falls, Ontario native will face his brother, Blue Bombers defensive back Tyrell Ford, at times during the game.

Rookie defensive back making waves

One of the highlights from the Elks’ defence is the play of rookie defensive back Devodric Bynum. The native of Dallas, Texas, has risen the ranks as one of the league’s threats in the secondary, notching five interceptions in the last three games while playing in the field-side cornerback position.

His five interceptions have put him in the top five interceptions list in the CFL.

The Elks will be counting on Bynum to continue making a game-changing impact against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ offence, which is dead last in the league with an average of 22.7 points per game, 24 touchdowns, and 344.6 yards in net total offence.
