Stampeders to Have New Starting Running Back

The Calgary Stampeders have resigned running backs Dedrick Mills, Peyton Logan, LeVante Bellamy and BJ Emmons for 2024 after the departure of Ka’Deem Carey.

The Stampeders have resigned four running backs including Dedrick Mills who stepped up in a big way last season for the Stamps. In two seasons playing for the Stamps Mills has 1,261 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns averaging 6 yards per carry. Mills had 9 starts in 2023 after Ka’Deem Carry’s season was cut short due to injury.

The Stamps are left with a big hole to fill on offense after parting ways with Ka’Deem Carey. Carey, who has been injury prone, signed with the Argonauts during the offseason.

The Stamps have also resigned running backs Peyton Logan, LeVante Bellamy and BJ Emmons. In two years with the team Peyton Logan has carried the ball 534 yards on 75 attempts, averaging 7.1 yards per carry. Along the way he managed 4 touchdowns. LeVante Bellamy spent 2023 in Calgary, taking 23 rushes 70 yards after two years playing for the Denver Broncos.

BJ Emmons bounced between the NFL and USFL for a few years but has no CFL playing experience. In 2022 Bellamy managed 244 yards on 97 attempts in the USFL.

Other Backs on Roster

The Stamps have additional support at running back and have the task of determining roster order.

Remaining on the roster is longtime Stampeder William Langlais. The CFL veteran has spent all of his 8 year career playing for Calgary but has seldom played the traditional role of running back. The Stamps also retain Sebastian Howard. Howard was selected 49th overall by the Stamps in the 2023 draft and worked through training camp.

Lucas Robertson will also be coming back to the team after being drafted 69th overall in the 2023 draft. The 23 year old spent the 2023 training camp with the Stamps before returning to university. He and Howard are each expected to be with the team through training camp again this year and may play in the pre-season.
