Cody Fajardo torched his old team for 510 yards and four touchdowns as the Elks survived a furious Riders comeback.

The Edmonton Elks outlasted the Saskatchewan Roughriders 36-34 at Mosaic Stadium, a shootout that came down to the final possessions. Edmonton improves to 6-1 and stays within a game of Montreal atop the league, while Saskatchewan drops to 4-2 and now sits third in the West. This one had no business being close given Edmonton's 553-455 yardage advantage, but the Riders kept clawing back all night. Vincent Blanchard hit a 57-yard field goal as time expired for the win.

Either team could have won this game. But, when you're inside the 10, convert on 3rd down twice to get in FG range you deserve to win. It's time for the "experts" to stop underestimating the Elks. This is a young, veteran team. Only 3 players on the entire roster over 30. The owners of 9 GC rings on defence, another 5 on offence. Only 1 change from last year on defence - Ceresna out, Carney in. No rookies prior to their #1 & #2 MAC's going down. (Djabome's been great after his initial outing). Their interior 3 starters are injured, Robustelli hasn't played. The Elks have beaten the Riders, Als & Wpg. They meet the Riders & Als again to close out the 1st half. They've played 5 games the past 33 days, on 3 short weeks, twice vs teams coming off byes & they're 4-1 on that stretch. At this point the Als, Riders & Elks are a level above the rest of the league. Watch out for the Stamps who I see making a move up the standings in the 2nd half. The Bombers may join the party with 2 easy opponents coming up BUT run the gauntlet of doubleheaders of the 3 top dogs in the 2nd half. The next 2 weeks I expect to see a lot of movement in the top of the standings.
