Bombers RB Brady Oliveira’s Milestone: CFL’s Best Canadian of 2023

Key Points:

  • Record-Setting Season: Oliveira leads with 1,534 rushing yards.
  • Dual Milestone: Surpassed 1,500 rushing and 2,000 scrimmage yards.
  • Blue Bombers’ Pride: Ninth from the team to win, first since 2017.

Brady Oliveira, the dynamic running back for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, has been named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian for the 2023 season. This announcement, a highlight of the CFL Awards, was part of the broader Grey Cup Festival celebrated in Hamilton from November 13-19.

Oliveira’s 2023 season was marked by remarkable achievements, including establishing career-highs in both rushing yards (1,534) and yards from scrimmage (2,016). These achievements not only led the league but also made him the second-ever Canadian to surpass both the 1,500 rushing and 2,000 scrimmage yard marks in a single season. His performance was characterized by seven games with over 100 rushing yards, setting new personal bests in receptions (38), receiving yards (482), and total touchdowns (13 – nine rushing and four receiving).

This achievement places Oliveira as the ninth Blue Bomber to win this award, and the first since Andrew Harris in 2017. Oliveira’s 57 first-place votes reflect the overwhelming recognition of his outstanding play throughout the season.

Oliveira’s success is a testament to his hard work and dedication, showcasing his significant role in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ offensive lineup. His record-setting season not only cements his status as one of the top players in the CFL but also underscores the high caliber of Canadian talent in the league. His impressive performance throughout 2023 will be remembered as a defining moment in his career and a proud achievement for both the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Canadian football.
