Calgary Stampeders Welcome Veteran DB Nick Taylor to Team

The Calgary Stampeders announced on Friday that they have signed American defensive back Nick Taylor, a seasoned player with an impressive track record in the CFL. Taylor has participated in 72 career regular-season and post-season games and was a key member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ Grey Cup-winning teams in 2019 and 2021.

Stampeders General Manager and Head Coach Dave Dickenson expressed his admiration for Taylor’s skill and dedication, stating, “I’ve always respected the way Nick plays the game. He’s a welcome addition to the Red and White.”

The 34-year-old Miami native began his CFL journey with Ottawa in 2016, later playing for Edmonton and Winnipeg. Throughout his 64 regular-season games, Taylor has tallied 188 defensive tackles, four tackles for loss, five special-teams stops, one sack, 19 knockdowns, two forced fumbles, and five interceptions, including two pick-sixes. In his six post-season appearances, he has amassed 19 tackles and one interception.

In the 2022 season, Taylor played 13 games for the Bombers, achieving 44 defensive tackles and a career-best three interceptions. Although he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 14, Taylor confirmed he is in excellent health and eagerly anticipating the 2023 season.

Taylor expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Stampeders, saying, “The opportunity to be able to join a great organization like Calgary was one I couldn’t pass up. I’m just excited to help win a championship, get to camp, and meet the guys, coaches, and fans.” He added, “Health-wise, I’m feeling tremendous. I’ve been working out fully since March with no limitations, so I couldn’t be more ready to go and again prove myself as one of the better DBs in the league.”
