The New York Jets have invited Canadian running back Michael Chris-Ike as well as Canadian defensive end Luke Brubacher to a rookie mini-camp per agent Fred Weinrauch on Saturday.

Michael Chris-Ike – Delaware State (6’2, 215 lbs)

Chris-Ike played his collegiate ball for Deleware State appearing in 28 games. He rushed 162 times for 724 rushing yards (4.46 yards per carry) and 5 rushing touchdowns.

Chris-Ike made a big splash at the CFL Combine with his 40-yard dash time as he tied for the fasted time with defensive back Benjamin Labrosse. At the combine he ran a 4.51-second 40-yard dash, a 6.71-second 3-cone drill, and a 4.19-second shuttle. He also performed 16 reps on the bench, a 35.5-inch vertical, and a 10’2” broad jump.

Michael Chris-Ike was projected to be taken early in the third round on TSN’s Marshall Ferguson’s most recent mock draft on cfl.ca. The fact that he will be attending at least 1 NFL rookie camp complicates things slightly adding a bit of risk to spending a draft pick on him. CFLNewsHub’s Coty Wiles’ had Chris-Ike projecting to go 17th overall previously in his mock draft.

Luke Brubacher – Wilifrid Laurier (6’2, 215 lbs)

Luke Brubacher played in 27 games for Wilfrid Laurier University where he recorded 61 tackles, 12 sacks, 15.5 tackles for a loss, 4 batted passes, and a forced fumble. He was named Second Team OUA in 2023.

At the CFL Combine, Brubacher performed a 4.69-second 40-yard dash, a 7.06-second 3-cone drill, a 4.34-second shuttle, and a 10’6” broad jump. He also demonstrated one of the highest vertical jumps at the combine with a 38-inch vertical. Brubacher was the 19th-ranked prospect eligible for the upcoming CFL Draft by CFL Central Scouting.

TSN’s Marshall Ferguson had Brubacher going midway into the 2nd round on his most recent mock draft at 13th overall. CFLNewsHub writer Coty Wiles also had him at 13 in his mock draft earlier in the month.

Another such example of a player attending an NFL rookie camp happened last year with defensive end Lawal Uguak last year. Montreal drafted him regardless and the risk paid off as he was available for the Alouettes having not signed with an NFL team and was an integral part of their Grey Cup run.
