LA Chargers Sign Canadian QB Casey Bauman as an Undrafted Free Agent

The Los Angeles Chargers signed Canadian quarterback Casey Bauman as an undrafted free agent on Saturday per TSN’s Farhan Lalji. Bauman threw for over 4 thousand yards over the past 2 seasons with Augustana University.

Bauman played in 21 games over the last 2 seasons for Augustana. He completed 327 of his 536 passes (61%) for 4,160 yards and 43 touchdowns with 16 interceptions with the program. He also rushed 181 times for 572 yards (3.2 average) and 6 rushing touchdowns.

Prior to playing for Augustana, he appeared in 16 games from 2018 to 2021. He started the first 3 games of the 2019 season during which he completed 41 of his 85 attempts for 450 yards and a touchdown with 0 interceptions.

Bauman grew up in Washington and was a late addition to the list of players eligible for the CFL Draft qualifying for Canadian citizenship through his mother. He attended the CFL Combine following being added to the prospect pool for the draft. At the Combine, he demonstrated good athleticism by running a 4.86-second 40-yard dash, a 7.28-second 3-cone drill, and a 4.33-second shuttle. He also performed a 9’9” broad jump and a 33-inch vertical.

Bauman measures at 6’6 and is 229 pounds. His size and athleticism indicate a possible utilization in short-yardage plays adding some value to him as a CFL quarterback prospect. However now that he is signed to an NFL team, CFL teams will be wary to spend a draft pick on him.
