3 Key Points

  • Dane Evans retires after a professional career in the CFL, mainly with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
  • Evans’ tenure included leading the team to the 107th Grey Cup and a strong 2019 season.
  • Concluding his career with the B.C. Lions, Evans’s statistics reflect his journey as a quarterback.

Dane Evans Ends Professional Football Career

Dane Evans, the established quarterback of the Canadian Football League (CFL), has decided to conclude his active playing days in professional football. A pivotal player with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats since 2017, Evans rose to prominence within the team structure throughout his career.

Evans’ Rise to Starter with the Tiger-Cats

Entering the league with the Tiger-Cats, the six-foot-one quarterback became a crucial part of the team in 2019, filling the starter position due to an injury to teammate Jeremiah Masoli. That season, he steered the team to an exceptional 15-3 record and a spot in the 107th Grey Cup finals.

Injury and Performance in Subsequent Seasons

While sharing playtime with Masoli, Evans faced his own challenges, including injuries and dips in performance. In 2022, as the team’s main quarterback, his statistics showed a mixed performance with 3,883 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and an equal number of interceptions.

Trade to the B.C. Lions and Final CFL Stats

After a trade to the B.C. Lions in February 2023, Evans accepted a backup role to Vernon Adams Jr. and made a moderate impact in his limited starts. Ending his CFL career, Evans’s statistics stand at 9,636 passing yards, 49 touchdowns, and 40 interceptions, alongside his contributions to the ground game, over the course of 79 games.

Conclusion of a Notable CFL Career

The once-promising starter from Tulsa concludes his career after showcasing dedication and adaptability on the field. Dane Evans’s legacy in the CFL will be recalled as a story of progression, adaptation, and the unpredictability of professional sports.
