Tre Ford Edmonton Elks Quarterback: CFL Spotlight

Tre Ford, a name synonymous with perseverance and talent, has made a mark as the Edmonton Elks’ Quarterback in the Canadian Football League (CFL). His journey through the ranks is a testament to his dedication to the game and his ceaseless pursuit of excellence. Let’s explore Ford’s remarkable career and personal life, taking a glimpse into who he is both on and off the field.

Early Life and High School Career

Tre Ford was born on March 30, 1998, and found his passion for football at the tender age of six, thanks to his father, Robert Ford, who introduced him to the sport and also served as his coach. Tre played quarterback at A. N. Myer Secondary School, where his leadership and skill led the Marauders to several championships.

University Career

Ford’s commitment to the quarterback position saw him choose the Waterloo Warriors, where he quickly made a name for himself. He shared playing time in his first season and then took over as the team’s starting quarterback in 2018.

The 2019 season saw Ford lead the Warriors to the playoffs, marking the first post-season victory for the team since 1999. Despite a canceled season in 2020 due to COVID-19, Ford’s performance in 2021 was nothing short of stellar. He earned the Hec Crighton Trophy as U Sports’ most outstanding player and won the Lois and Doug Mitchell Award.

Transition to Professional Football

Tre Ford’s accolades and strong performances caught the attention of both the CFL and NFL. Though undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, he received mini-camp invites from the Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants.

In the 2022 CFL Draft, Ford was chosen in the first round (8th overall) by the Edmonton Elks. After a rocky start to the season, Ford was given the starting role but suffered a shoulder injury that temporarily sidelined him.

Ford’s performance during the 2022 CFL season with the Elks has been promising, but he currently sits as the third-string quarterback, with head coach Chris Jones expressing reluctance to give him the starting role again.

Off the Field

Beyond the gridiron, Ford has personal achievements that add layers to his character. He married his long-time fiancée, Anika Nadeau, in June 2022. His twin brother, Tyrell Ford, plays defensive back for the Green Bay Packers.

Ford’s ambition also translates into his education, as he is working towards an MBA at Laurentian University and is a member of the university’s track team.

Tre Ford’s story is one of unwavering dedication, resilience, and love for football. Guided by his father and driven by his natural talent, Ford has shown that he is more than a rising star in the CFL. His career with the Edmonton Elks and beyond is certainly one to watch, not just for his prowess on the field but for the remarkable individual behind the jersey.
