Linebacker Tanner Cadwallader Commits to Two More Years

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are actively working to maintain their defensive line-up from the previous season. The club has successfully re-signed linebacker Tanner Cadwallader with a two-year contract. Initially entering free agency in February, Cadwallader, a 2020 CFL Draft fourth-round selection, has chosen to continue representing Winnipeg.

Throughout his three seasons, Cadwallader has secured a role as a critical special teams player. His statistics highlight his steady presence, with 38 special teams tackles, four defensive tackles, and a forced fumble, all without missing a single game. In 2023 alone, Cadwallader achieved 16 special teams tackles.

Cornerback Deatrick Nichols Returns to Winnipeg

In a significant keep for the Blue Bombers, cornerback Deatrick Nichols also signed a two-year extension. Nichols, who first joined the Blue Bombers in 2021, has made a substantial impact in his short time with the team, playing in 47 regular-season games to date.

Nichols’ performance through his tenure includes an impressive collection of 126 defensive tackles, one sack, four interceptions, and a forced fumble. His contributions have led to him receiving CFL All-Star honors on two occasions, affirming his status as a key player in the league.

Blue Bombers’ Roster Stability

The Blue Bombers have displayed a strategic focus on player retention, with five re-signings since the off-season kicked off. This approach signifies a push for stability and continuity as the team prepares for the upcoming season, with the defensive unit being a particular area of concentration.

These latest contract extensions with Cadwallader and Nichols add to the team’s defensive backbone, ensuring seasoned and reliable players uphold the Blue Bombers’ defensive fortitude going into the next season.
