Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign Jermaine Ponder

WINNIPEG, MB.– The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have announced that the club has signed American defensive player Jermaine Ponder.

Ponder is a six-foot-two 200 pounds American defensive back out of Saint Francis University. At Saint Francis Ponder appeared in 35 games, where he recorded 34 total tackles, 18 passes deflected, and two interceptions.

Ponder was named second-team All-Northeast Conference after his senior season in 2018. He set a school record with 16 passes defended, 15 pass breakups, and one interception. Those totals led the Northeast Conference and ranked fifth in the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision.

After the conclusion of his senior year, Ponder declared for the 2019 NFL draft. He would go on to sign with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent. He would go on to participate in training camps with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans where he would record an interception against the Los Angeles Rams during the pre-season.

Ponder took a shot in the XFL as he was chosen by the Seattle Dragons in the 2019 XFL Draft and earned his way onto the active roster on March 3, 2020, shortly before the season abruptly ended.
