I am going to be doing something a bit different. Yes, I will hand out a game-ball after each Winnipeg Blue Bomber game, but I will also hand out a jock (all figuratively of course).

The ‘jock,’ is going to go to someone who stunk it up! Maybe it was on one play, or through the course of the game. The idea of the jock, is that it will be the opposite of the game-ball.

Game-Ball For Winnipeg:

This seems to be a reoccurring theme, but there are a number of players that could have received a game-ball for Winnipeg.

Willy Jefferson made his presence known like he usually does. He is only credited with two defencive tackles, and a quarterback sack. However, Jefferson had at least one knockdown, a very near sack on Rourke, and provided a lot of pressure on the BC quarterback. None of that shows up on the stats sheet, but it all went a long way in helping the Bombers win.

Adam Bighill and Jackson Jeffcoat (who had an interception) are in the conversation as well, as they always are.

Demerio Huston, and Donald Rutledge both had an interception as well.

How about Janarion Grant? He opened the game with a kickoff return for a touchdown! He should have had a second return for a touchdown, but it was called back on a holding penalty. Starting the game that way really gave the Bombers a shot in the arm.

This conversation cannot be had without mentioning Zach Collaros. If you watched the game, Zack looked mad! He seemed to be gritting his teeth a lot on the sidelines. But what was he mad at? The run game was going and the passing game was also connecting.

This is pure speculation but I think Zach had heard enough about “Kid Canada” Rourke heading into the game. If you listened to the pundits it is as if they forgot Collaros was the reigning Most Outstanding Player. Guess who did not forget? Zach Collaros. Zach would also make sure that nobody forgot any time soon that he is the reigning MOP. His scrambles, throws – even when falling – are all over the highlight reel.

After the game, fans had fun coming up with great phrases that involved Schoen – pronounced shown. “He Schoen up,” “He’s Schoen who’s the boss,” are just two that I heard. Schoen had a breakout game with eight catches on 10 targets – tons of highlight reel material – for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Ellingson was in on the action as well catching all seven targets for 98 yards.

I know, I know. You cannot give out 5 game-balls. Yet, on the TSN broadcast they showed that in fact there were 5 game-balls on the sideline that Bomber players wanted to keep. So maybe you can. With this being such an impossible task, let us move on to the jock and come back to the game-ball in a bit.

Jock: ???

Too easy! Marcus Sayles.

In a reoccurring theme the jock is going to someone for their off-field antics. Hey folks. I do not plan it this way, it is just the way it is. Trying his best to be a rabble-rouser towards his old team, Marcus Sayles lit a fire under Winnipeg. Calling the Bombers’ offence vanilla not only ignited Collaros, but Willie Jefferson as well who had this to say about it.

The provocative words by Sayles seemed to also get the attention of Buck Pierce who called a game that was a far cry from vanilla. However, Pierce said that he had not heard about the ‘vanilla’ comment until after the game.

Sayles, for talking smack and your team not backing it up you get the jock. WAIT! Maybe I should have given you the game-ball as you fired up the Bombers. No…you get the jock.

Game-Ball For Winnipeg Continued:

I did what you do, when you do not know what to do. I went to the internet. To be precise, I made a Twitter poll asking who should get the game-ball. Zach Collaros is a heavy favorite in that poll. However, if there is a slim chance Collaros should read this, I want him to keep that chip on his shoulder that we saw last game. Therefore, I am inclined to not give Collaros the game ball and have him ball out again against Calgary, and come and rip that game-ball out of my hands. Collaros, you were a beast in that game! Elusive, making great throws under pressure, and being recognized as the top CFL Top Performer this week, you get my game ball.

Honorary Game-Ball For Winnipeg:

The Bomber Drum Line gets an honorary game ball this week! Jaremy Ediger happened to see the video from my seven year old son’s first drum recital a couple of weeks ago. (In case you are wondering, my son rocked out to Van Halen’s Jump.) Jaremy put out the invitation for my son and I to come and see the drum line practice. So of course we took him up on that! My son even got to try some of the instruments and received a massive pair of drum sticks- those sticks they use are huge! You can see all that in this tweet thread.

For taking the time for my son, and engaging with him, Jaremy and the rest of the Bomber Drum Line, you get a game-ball.

The Bombers are going to have to bring their A-game again on Friday night when they take on the 4-0 Calgary Stampeders at IG Field. We know the drum line will bring their A-game!
