WINNIPEG, MB- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers continue to bring back key players, extending Jesse Briggs, Geoff Gray, and Shayne Gauthier.
Canadian linebacker Jesse Briggs signed a one-year contract extension with the Blue Bombers a month before he was supposed to become a free agent. In an interview with BlueBombers.com, Briggs said that becoming a free agent or playing in a different uniform was never a thought,
‘Winnipeg is my football home.”
Briggs was selected by the Blue Bombers as the 17th pick in the second round of the 2014 Canadian Football League (CFL) Draft. He will be returning for his eighth season.
During his time with the Blue Bombers, he totaled 104 games played where he recorded 44 defensive tackles, 62 special teams tackles, one forced fumble, and touch down during the 2021 season.
Canadian offensive lineman Geoff Gray signed a two-year contract extension.
The six-foot-six inches 307 pounds offensive linemen will be returning for his fourth season with the blue and gold.
Gray was drafted eight overall in the 2017 CFL Draft. Prior to joining the Blue Bombers, Gray spent some time in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, and finally the Cleveland Browns before being released in August of 2018. That same year he would join the Blue Bombers to play one game that season and the rest is history.
Gray, a leader in the offensive line group and a noted foodie plans to invite the O-line to his house for dinner.
“The meals covered the whole spectrum. I’ve always liked to cook. Growing up, my mom cooked a lot and with my whole family food was something we focused on. As I got living on my own and cooking on my own, I just got more creative and more skilled with it. It started because I honestly hate going out to eat all the time. I just didn’t want to go out to a steak place or something when we are playing here when a steak is something you can easily cook at home. One thing led to another, and it turned out to be a big hit.”
Today the Blue Bombers announced that the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with Canadian linebacker Shayne Gauthier. Gauthier will be returning for his sixth season with the blue and gold.
Gauthier was the 28th pick in the fourth round, by the Blue Bombers in the 2016 CFL Draft. He has suited up for 63 games with the club over five years, not missing a single game in the last two seasons.
In his five seasons, Gauthier posted 15 defensive tackles, 49 special teams tackles, and one forced fumble in 63 total appearances.
